Choosing Family Reunion destinations

One of the first decisions that needs to be made when planning a family reunion is where to hold the reunion.  Many factors come into play when choosing your location.  It could depend on:

  • Where every member of your family is located
  • How much money is available for the reunion
  • Likes and dislikes

Many families have childhood traditions of going to grandma’s every year, or going to the lake, or camping.  These are easily morphed into family reunion destinations are your children become your adult children.

Family reunion destinations don’t have to be expensive, they don’t have to change yearly, they don’t have to stay the same. Below there are 4 types of destinations that can start you thinking about where you would like to hold your next family reunion.

Theme park, family reunionStay-cation reunion

There can be several reason for choosing a stay-cation such as:

  • An unusually hectic summer/winter, you want to have the family reunion so staying home makes it less stressful.
  • A small budget can also help you choose the stay-cation.

There are just as many things to do as a family at a Stay-cation as any other reunion – it just takes a bit more effort to come together since everyone may be sleeping in their own beds.  A few ideas on stay-cations are:

  • Create a raffle and kids change where they spend the night and what cousins they stay with.
  • All the kids stay at grandma and grandpa’s for the reunion.
  • research:
    • Water parks
    • Museums
    • Zoos
    • hiking trails
    • parks
    • pools
    • local beaches
    • theme park
    • other activities.

There is still a lot of fun to be had even if you stay home for your reunion.  Make sure to still order T-Shirts and have a theme.

Outdoor reunions are super fun!  There is just something about being outside and going.  Kids love the out of doors, camping, water activities etc.
